Oilatum scalp treatment shampoo (ciclopirox olamine 1.5 per cent) has been launched by Stiefel Laboratories for the relief of "itchy, flaky, scalp conditions, including stubborn dandruff". The company says that ciclopirox olamine is active against Malassezia furfur and that increased numbers of this yeast have been linked with stubborn dandruff. The general sale list product should be used twice weekly and massaged into wet hair and left for three to five minutes. The hair should then be rinsed and treatment repeated if necessary (retail price, 50ml £5.45, 100ml £8.75).
