Retirement of an editor

The retirement of an editor marks the end of an era for any publication and this is particularly the case with Mr Douglas Simpson, who retired last week after 35 years working on The Pharmaceutical Journal, the last 13 of those as editor (p359).
Under Mr Simpson's leadership, The Pharmaceutical Journal stable has expanded from a single publication to encompass seven niche publications; made the transfer to in-house, electronic page make up; established a website; organised conferences; and started the Pharmaceutical Care Awards.
He believed that The Journal's prime purpose should be to speak to, and for, the members of the Society. For most members, The Journal represents their main contact with the Society.
Mr Simpson will be missed by many at Lambeth, and in the profession as a whole, and we wish him a long and happy retirement.
