The Council

Apparent failings

From Mr M. L. Orchel, MRPharmS

SIR,-Recent letters in the PJ have again been highlighting apparent failings in supply of information for Council members (Mr Dajani). With the finances of the Society being in deficit (perhaps only one of many failings), remedies cannot be put in place without knowing the true state of affairs.
Others are saying that the profession is being undermined from within. When information does not flow, events can develop in unexpected directions. Pharmacy is a small profession. It cannot afford "small people" in charge. So, who is damaging the Society? Those trying to improve it by using democratic means at their disposal, or those trying to preserve the status quo?
The Council and the President have been elected "to serve". They can also be removed by due process. Perhaps it is time that the body of the Society should elect the President and not just the members on the Council.
