PJ Online update

Introduction of special interest areas

An occasional feature to bring readers up to date with developments in PJ Online, the website version of The Pharmaceutical Journal, and to answer common questions about the service. PJ Online is available on the internet at www.pharmj.com

Visitors to PJ Online, the Pharmaceutical Journal's website, may have noticed that two new areas have been recently added to the site. There is now an area dedicated to continuing professional development, and another which focuses on specific topics in pharmacy.
Both areas are designed to provide PJ Online users with information they need as quickly as possible.
The new areas can be accessed by using the buttons at the foot of the PJ Online home page.

Continuing professional development

The continuing professional development section provides links to other websites and resources that may help pharmacists to keep informed about the profession and to keep abreast of changes in pharmacy practice and new technological and scientific developments applicable to pharmacy. Resources include a database of Royal Pharmaceutical Society branch meetings and conferences on pharmacy-related topics, books published by the Pharmaceutical Press, and details of pharmacy schools and postgraduate courses.
Because of the importance of continuing education within the continuing professional development process, The Pharmaceutical Journal regularly publishes series of articles on different continuing education themes. Although the content of PJ Online's archives generally does not extend back beyond August, 1999, the full text of all continuing education articles since the beginning of 1999 can now be read online, and they have been grouped together to provide easy access through the website.

The CPD section has links to useful resources and to major providers of continuing education in pharmacy

Topics in pharmacy

From time to time topics emerge in pharmacy that are of general interest within the profession. The first topic highlighted by PJ Online is pharmaceutical care. The Journal has followed the growing debate on pharmaceutical care within the profession. Mr Douglas Simpson, who recently retired as editor of The Journal, has compiled a bibliography of the most important articles published in The Journal on the subject. This list is available on PJ Online with links to the full text of all the articles listed.
Visitors to the site are encouraged to suggest their own ideas for topics of interest. Suggestions can be e-mailed to the editor at editor@pharmj.org.uk.
