Bayer has launched Kogenate Bayer injection, a new formulation of recombinant coagulation factor VIII for the treatment and prophylaxis of bleeding in patients with haemophilia A. The company says that the new formulation uses sucrose instead of human albumin to stabilise the recombinant factor VIII protein. In addition, a viral-inactivation method, solvent/detergent trea- tment, was used during the purification process to protect the product from viral contamination. The product is available in 250iu, 500iu and 1,000iu vials for reconstituting with 2.5ml of water for injections (net price, 1 vial 250iu £150, 500iu £300, 1,000iu £600).
