From Mr A. R. Cox, MRPharmS
SIR,On September 11 I posted a letter to Mrs Christine Glover, President
of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, asking her to reaffirm the Councils
commitment to the principle of editorial independence for The Pharmaceutical
Journal as was clearly set out at the August 5, 1998, meeting of the Council
(PJ, August 15, 1998, p229).
The letter had 78 signatures reflecting the broad spectrum of our Societys
membership. Many of these pharmacists are saddened that such lengths have to
be taken to protect what is essentially their journal.
Any reply we receive will, of course, be relayed to the wider membership. However,
I personally fear that the President may have already expressed her views on
this matter with her inappropriate and now widely reported comments, accusing
The Pharmaceutical Journal of being a parish magazine.
I would like to thank publicly all those who signed the letter and I am heartened
that large numbers of members feel able to lend their support to The Pharmaceutical
Journal at such short notice.
