Pharmacists should shortly be receiving copies of the 40th edition of the
British National Formulary, which was published last week.
Significant changes have been made to the coronary risk prediction charts and
the section on equivalent doses for strong analgesics. Other sections which
include significant amendments include: drugs for dyspepsia and
gastro-oesophageal reflux; chronic diarrhoeas; allergic emergencies; antibacterial
treatment of acute prostatitis, acute pyelonephritis and pelvic inflammatory
disease; management of tuberculosis in immunologically compromised patients;
malaris prophylaxis in children; and the treatment of hypoglycaemia.
