Pharmacy contractors and their workers were designated as essential users
who should have had access to 300 priority filling stations during last week’s
fuel crisis.
A
letter circulated to health authorities on September 14 said that NHS employers
and primary care contractors should provide letters of authority for their practitioners
and staff.
Essential users were defined as all persons, including direct employees, voluntary
workers, private suppliers and contractors, who are involved in the delivery
of essential health and social care services. The production and distribution
of medical and pharmaceutical supplies was considered to be an essential service.
