Patient-centred NHS campaign launched

The Long-term Medical Conditions Alliance has launched a campaign to have the needs of patients recognised as being placed at the heart of health care.
The campaign — people’s voice for health (PV4H) — is a response to the National Health Service plan, which the alliance describes as being strong on rhetoric but short on proposals to focus health care on patients and good service.
To get the campaign started, the alliance is asking health professionals and organisations to commit themselves to three principles, which it is calling “the people’s challenge”.
The principles are:

  1. A comprehensive health service, available and accessible to everyone.
  2. Recognition that patients must be at the heart of health care.
  3. To make a patient-entred NHS a reality.

To show that there is serious commitment to the challenge, signatories are also being asked to name new patient-centred initiatives that they will bring to reality within a year.
A website has been set up (www.pv4h.org.uk) which gives details of the campaign and which offers individuals and organisations the opportunity to sign up on line. Details of the Long-term Medical Conditions Alliance can be found on the internet at www.northern.nildram.co.uk/lmca/.
