The Prescription Pricing Authority’s compliance unit, which investigates prescription charge fraud, prosecuted 175 people last year and obtained judgment in its favour in 152 cases, according to the PPA’s newsletter.
In addition, 228 out of 382 pharmacy contractors who made claims under the fraud incentive scheme received payments for reporting suspected fraudulent prescriptions.
Contractors’ reports also resulted in 63 arrests being made.
The information is given in Impact, a new-look PPA newsletter which has been introduced to replace separate the editions of PPA Matters that were previously produced for pharmacy contractors and dispensing doctors.
