medicated linctus, for symptomatic relief of coughs and sore throats, has been
launched by Thornton & Ross. The company says that the general sale list
product contains ipecacuanha liquid extract 0.01ml/5ml dose, honey, glucose,
glycerin and menthol. For adults, 10ml should be taken every four hours for
up to five days. The recommended dose for children over one year is 5ml. The
linctus is contraindicated in patients with diabetes and should be used with
caution in patients with hypovolaemia, renal disease and dehydration. Side effects
include headache, nausea and vomiting (retail price, 100ml £2.65).
