Power cut in Welsh pharmacy theft

Thieves disconnected the power supply to a south Wales pharmacy before breaking in and stealing drugs which the police estimate to have a street value of more than £20,000.
The thieves disabled street lamps and underground telephone cables before disarming the alarm system at Georgetown Pharmacy, Ynysfach, Merthyr Tydfil.
Mr Tim Owen (superintendent pharmacist) told The Journal on September 19 that the items stolen included diamorphine, temazepam, diazepam and nitrazepam which would cost £8,000 to replace. The raid took place in the early hours of September 10 and was not discovered until September 11.
Mr Owens said: “It looks as if the people responsible knew what they were looking for and perhaps were stealing to order.”
The police have asked other pharmacies in the area to increase their security.
