Shire Pharmaceuticals has updated the summaries of product characteristics for Suprecur injection (buserelin [as acetate] 1mg/ml) and nasal spray (buserelin [as acetate] 150µg/spray) and Suprefact injection (buserelin [as acetate] 1mg/ml) and nasal spray (buserelin [as acetate] 100µg/spray). The following statement has been added to the undesirable effects section: “Long term treatment with LH-RH [luteinising hormone-releasing hormone] agonists including buserelin may, in isolated cases, lead to development of pituitary adenomas.” The following frequent adverse effects have also been added: musculoskeletal discomfort and pain (including shoulder pain/stiffness).
