Researchers at two schools of pharmacy are to receive primary care research
awards from the Government as part of a scheme which allows experienced primary
care researchers to become independent research leaders, it was announced on
October 3.
Dr Karen Hassell, a social scientist and health service researcher at the school
of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, University of Manchester, is to receive
a share of £3.5m from the National Health Service research and development
budget under the national primary care award scheme. She will be studying The
pharmacy workforce in the 21st century: the character, nature and diversity
of a health profession in the new NHS.
Dr Carmel Hughes, a pharmacist researcher at the school of pharmacy, Queens
University of Belfast, will be funded by the research and development office
for Northern Ireland to study The prescribing interface in primary care:
a portfolio of research exploring the relationship between community pharmacy
and general practice.
