Locums

Recommendation is best

From Mrs A. Stone

SIR,—How sad, Mrs O’Neil — we do sympathise, really (PJ, September 23, p445).
All I can suggest is that the proprietor of the pharmacy in which you work picks his or her locums more carefully — we find personal recommendation far better than a locum agency.
In the pharmacy in which I have worked for almost 30 years as a pharmacy technician, we have been fortunate to have locums who are not only experienced but also prepared to pull their weight. Our regular weekly locum of many years’ standing is energetic, alert and has become a good friend to all the staff. She does jobs over and above what is required of her and never complains. She is a delight to work with as are the various other locums we have used.
Not all locums are like yours. Perhaps you need to speak to other pharmacies to see if you can find a “decent” locum pharmacist in your area. Failing that I think you need to come to Cardiff.
