Hospital wins funds for training

The pharmacy department at Worcester Royal infirmary is to receive funding from the Hereford and Worcester training consortium to appoint two staff trainers.
The two new positions are a for medicines management training pharmacist and a senior pharmacy training technician. Both of the posts are to be funded for three years.
The training pharmacist will provide educational support for the development of patient group directions (PGDs) across the consortium area and will liaise with local managers over the implementation of PGDs. He or she will also be expected to identify and report any clinical governance or medicines management issues which arise. The training technician will develop a competence based training programme for assistant technical officers in pharmacy services and to deliver the training to all eligible staff.
The training consortium has previously agreed to fund student holiday placements within hospital pharmacy departments and to fund the attendance by technicians and pharmacists on training courses for checking technicians and aseptic dispensing.
