Pharmacists should make better use of their members of Parliament, according
to the only pharmacist in the House of Commons.
Addressing the Royal Pharmaceutical Societys annual branch secretaries
meeting on October 11, Ms Sandra Gidley, Liberal Democrat MP for Romsey, told
more than 50 branch secretaries that pharmacists should be single-minded in
pursuing their aims. Pharmacists were not as vocal as some other professions.
MPs did not know what pharmacists did, and Ms Gidley urged pharmacists, especially
representatives of the branches, to contact their own MPs. They should not be
afraid to visit MPs surgeries, where they had an opportunity to put their
case for 15 minutes. They should also invite their MPs to visit their pharmacies.
