The Department of Health has announced a review of the primary care workforce
and is expecting a report before April, 2001.
Speaking at an NHS Alliance meeting in Birmingham on October 19, Mr John Denham
(Minister of State, Department of Health) said that the review would examine
staffing at family doctors surgeries and other forms of primary care across
England.
In a statement, the Department said that the review would look at ways of extending
the roles of nurses and other health professionals and at ways of breaking down
barriers between different groups of staff. It would consider staff numbers
and the way they worked.
