Pharmacy2u receives £3m investment

Pharmacy2u Ltd, an online pharmacy business, has received £3m in investment from two companies. The company has recently relaunched its website (www.pharmacy2u.co.uk).
Onmedica Group Plc has made a £2m equity investment in Pharmacy2u. As a result it will have two non-executive directors on Pharmacy2u’s board, including Mr Keith
McCullagh as chairman. Mr McCullagh was a founder and the former chief executive of British Biotech Plc.
Onmedica recently aquired Ukpractice.net Ltd, an internet portal for general medical practitioners. The companies believe that linking Pharmacy2u’s electronic pharmacy services with Ukpractice.net’s 22,000 registered GPs is a first step towards creating a nationwide e-prescribing service. Pharmacy2u has registered an interest in undertaking one of the pilots of electronic prescription transmission.
Crédit Agricole Indosuez, an investment bank, has made a £1m investment in Pharmacy2u and will have one non-executive director on the board.
Speaking to The Journal recently, Mr Daniel Lee (managing director, Pharmacy2u) said that the company had now been successful in raising the necessary finance to further develop its services. Its website was relaunched on October 30 with “a lot of added functionality”. The investment would also be used for raising awareness of Pharmacy2u among consumers and health care professionals.
The company had recently appointed Mr Richard Littlehales as finance director and Mr Jon Cohen, MRPharmS, as business-to-business (professional services) director.
