Fresenius Kabi has introduced Fresubin 1000 Complete.
The enteral tube feed, which is ACBS approved, is nutritionally complete in
1000Kcal. The company says that Fresubin 1000 Complete has been formulated for
patients with low energy requirements such as those on long term feeding who
are obese, elderly, inactive or immobile (net price, 1L Easybag £8.20).
Fresenius Kabi has also reformulated its range of tube feeds. The company says
that its range of standard enteral tube feeds now complies with EU Directive
1999/21/EC (foods for special medical purposes). The proportion of medium chain
triglyceride fat has been reduced from 33 per cent to 15 per cent and b-carotene
and the omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentanoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid have
been added to the new formulations. In addition, the tube feeds have been renamed.
Fresubin Neutral is now called Fresubin Original, Entera and Entera Fibre Plus
are now called Fresubin Energy and Fresubin Energy Fibre respectively and Fresubin
Isofibre is now called Fresubin Original Fibre.
The company says that the level of fibre in Fresubin Original Fibre has increased
from 1.5g to 2g per 100ml and the single fibre source, soya polysaccharide,
has been replaced with a combination of inulin, oat grain and resistant starch
fibres. Further information about the new formulations is available from Fresenius
Kabi's nutrition services team (tel 01928 594257).
The company has also introduced the Freka PEG 20FR into its gastrostomy feeding
tube range. The tube has a 5mm diameter and facilitates both long term bolus
and continuous feed administration (net price, £70).
