BASF Pharma is to close its research and development site at Pennyfoot Street, Nottingham, in February, 2001, with the loss of 200 jobs. The company has been unable to sell the site. Around 50 new positions will be created in other research and development sites at Nottingham, Germany and the United States. BASF's United Kingdom sales, marketing, clinical development and regulatory groups are not affected by the closure.
