Future irbesartan trial

Aglobal trial evaluating the potential use of irbesartan as a once-daily treatment for heart failure was announced by Bristol-Myers Squibb and Sanofi-Synthelabo on November 15.
The trial, which is scheduled to begin by September, 2001, will evaluate the potential effect of irbesartan on morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure. This study follows the results of the Val-HeFT study (see p785) which suggested the benefit of an angiotensin II receptor antagonist on top of standard heart failure therapy, the companies say.
