From Mr J. S. Bansal, MRPharmS
SIR,—I am inspired by the comments from Professor Dawson (PJ, November 18, p745) that pharmacists are the professionals to advise on complementary therapies. Too right, and about time too.
Let me give you a glimpse of what learning about complementary medicines has done for me. I can give you views and opinions from both sides of the coin. People pay me for my opinions as well as my treatments. My life is not completely led by National Health Service prescription forms; I have some independence. I have greater contact with patients and their complications and find the experience very rewarding. I can give valid alternatives to "keep on taking the painkillers”. I have learned the meaning of lifestyle and the balance between work, rest and play.
Welcome to a new era of health care, where patients, as well as their symptoms, are treated.
