SIR,—I write with some alarm after seeing a recent advertisement in your journal of November 18 (opposite p746) for cold and 'flu remedies from Smithkline Beecham. The advertisement gives the impression that there is some form of endorsement from the nursing profession. I certainly would not endorse an individual product for illnesses that are essentially self-limiting and where there is no proven efficacy.
I would suggest you are a little more careful about the advertisements you accept. While the advertisement might be "tongue-in-cheek "and seen as such among pharmacists, it actually appears quite insulting, whether or not Day Nurse and Night Nurse are registered trademarks.
