‘Pathology and therapeutics for pharmacists — a basis for clinical pharmacy practice', by Russell J. Greene and Norman D. Harris. 2nd edition. Pp xxvi+788. Price £39.95. London: Pharmaceutical press, 2000. ISBN 0 85369 373 0.
This textbook is appropriately aimed at undergraduate and practising pharmacists as well as other health care professionals. Although the structure of this text is unchanged from the first edition, the text has been considerably updated and there is much better use of figures and diagrams. The first two chapters give an overview of drug selection and major pathological processes. The remaining chapters each address a major therapeutic area, providing excellent descriptions of the underlying disease and a comprehensive discussion of patient management options. The changes in this book since the first edition highlight the current pace of therapeutic advances and demonstrate the need for regular updating of such textbooks.
