Alliance Unichem Plc has acquired a 25 per cent stake in Hedef Holdings AS, the largest pharmaceutical wholesaler in Turkey, for £46m, the company announced on December 4.
Hedef was formed in 1987 and now has more than 40 per cent of the Turkish market, serving more than 16,000 pharmacists and 8,000 non-pharmacy retail outlets from 29 warehouses.
Mr Jeff Harris (chief executive, Alliance Unichem) said that the company had been looking at the Turkish market and talking to Hedef for some time. Alliance Unichem has an option to take a further 25 per cent stake in Hedef at any time in the next 30 months.
Unichem wins customer service award Unichem Ltd was named as the best large organisation in the retail and distribution category of the Daily Telegraph/Energis customer service awards 2000 on November 28. Among the services praised by the judging panel were Unichem's counter attack service, which allows orders down to single quantities of counter products for next-day delivery, and its customer discussion forum, which is chaired by one of its customers.
