BMA The British Medical Association has appointed Mr Jeremy Strachen as secretary. Mr Strachen is currently executive director for legal and corporate affairs and world-wide business development at Glaxo Wellcome Plc. He will join the BMA when Glaxo Wellcome's merger with Smithkline Beecham Plc is finalised. Mr Strachen, a barrister, is the first non-doctor to become secretary of the BMA in more than 100 years. He succeeds Dr Mac Armstrong who has been appointed chief medical officer for Scotland.
Pharmalife Pharmalife Ltd has appointed Dr Rifat Atun to its professional advisory panel. Dr Atun is director of the health management programme and senior lecturer in health management at Imperial College, University of London.
