Fake medicines cost £180m, says ACG

Counterfeit medicines cost the pharmaceutical industry in the United Kingdom £180m a year in lost revenues and £8m in lost profit, according to the Anti-counterfeiting Group (ACG).
The group’s executive secretary (Mr John Anderson) told The Journal on December 18 that a report commissioned by the group from the Centre for Economic Business Research had said that 6 per cent of pharmaceuticals in the UK were probably fake. He took the view that the Sunday Express for December 17 had gone too far in its claim that they were fakes made out of little more than chalk.
