The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists has welcomed the commitments made to pharmacy in the Scottish plan for the National Health Service
Speaking after the launch of the plan in Edinburgh on December 14, the Guild’s secretary for Scotland (Mr Colin Rodden) said "It is most encouraging to see the Scottish Executive’s commitment to rebuild the NHS in Scotland. There are many areas mentioned in the plan where pharmacists can make a significant contribution."
In particular, the guild was pleased to see the Executive’s intention to work with the profession in Scotland to address manpower issues and looked forward to being involved in the development of a strategy for pharmacy. It also welcomed the proposed investment in training and development of NHS staff.
The guild’s president (Mrs Helen Remington) welcomed the proposed extension of model schemes for pharmaceutical care and support for a wider prescribing role for pharmacists.
