The student bodies for pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, nursing, optometry and podiatry have created an interdisciplinary student forum to promote future team-working in the National Health Service.
Agreement to form the forum was the principal outcome of a multidisciplinary meeting hosted by the British Pharmaceutical Students Association at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society on December 9.
Participants heard presentations from each of the student bodies and took part in a debate. Issues discussed included the implications of tuition fees for students’ choice of courses, undergraduate education for the different disciplines and lobbying the Government on relevant political issues.
Following the meeting, Mr Noel Wicks (president, BPSA) said: "The modern National Health Service will rely heavily on multidisciplinary working and there is no reason why this should not start at undergraduate level."
