One in every three primary care trusts in England has a pharmacist on its executive board. A survey of local pharmaceutical committees by the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has found that six of the 17 first wave PCTs have pharmacists on their boards, and that pharmacists are awaiting confirmation as executive members of nine of the 23 planned second wave trusts. The survey also found that LPCs has found guidance and advice produced by the PSNC useful for securing places on PCT boards.
The PSNC is shortly to issue new guidance to LPCs on how to secure places for pharmacists on the boards of the 136 third wave trusts which are expected to be formed in April, 2001.
