Mr Nicholas Reid has been awarded a doctor of philosophy degree by the University of Aberdeen for his thesis on "The clinical, microbiological and molecular epidemiology of Streptococcus pneumoniae". Mr Reid originally studied microbiology at Aberdeen and then worked towards his doctorate. Ill-health forced him to stop work on it in 1997 but he was subsequently able to complete the write up even though he is now in the final year of the pharmacy course at the Brighton university. Mr Reid is the son of Mr David Reid,
FRPharmS, superintendent pharmacist of Robert Howden Ltd, which has a pharmacy at Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
Mr Miall James, FRPharmS, has been awarded a master of arts degree in community pharmacy by Anglia Polytechnic university. His dissertation was on "The Centre for Postgraduate Pharmaceutical Education: has it changed practice?"to which he gave a positive answer.
