The Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s publications division
held a training day for hospital medical information pharmacists in the London
and North and South Thames areas at the Society’s headquarters on January 19.
The aim of the day was to familiarise pharmacists with basic and advanced searching
techniques for online information sources such as Micromedex, Medline, Embase,
WeBNF and with general internet searching. Micromedex and WeBNF are available
from the Pharmaceutical Press.
Participants were given presentations on the databases and reference sources
by medical information pharmacists and members of the Society’s staff. They
were then given the opportunity to practise searching on the relevant databases.
The Society is hoping to organise further training days nationally.
