Medicines, Ethics and Practice: a guide for pharmacists

March cumulative list of amendments

In the first issue of each month The Pharmaceutical Journal updates the guidance on the legal status of medicines published in the 24th edition of 'Medicines, ethics and practice: A guide for pharmacists', which was published in July, 2000.

The amendments are given in bold type on the first occasion they are printed in the list; thereafter they are repeated each month in light type. The legal status of a product can be obtained by consulting first the latest list of amendments and then the guide. The abbreviations used in the list are those used in the guide and explained in the key to annotations in the body of the guide (pp21 and 61).

Users of the guide should note that, as one of the consequences of the requirement to reduce the Society's expenditure, the Council has agreed on a new schedule for the publication of 'Medicines, ethics and practice'. In future it will be published in printed form only once a year in July. The January edition will be replaced by a supplement giving details of the changes agreed since the previous July. Although the intention is to distribute the supplement with the PJ during January, delays in implementing the changes mean that the supplement to the 24th edition of the guide will not appear until later this month.

The Society asks recipients to ensure that each supplement is retained alongside the main July edition.

The Journal will continue to publish details of changes to the guide agreed by Council as they occur during the course of the year, in addition to its monthly list of amendments to the guidance on the legal status of medicines.
