Applications are invited for the 2000 Pharmaceutical Care Awards, which recognise excellence in the development of pharmaceutical services. Entries must relate to initiatives that were begun during 2000. The awards are sponsored jointly by The Pharmaceutical Journal and Glaxosmithkline. The awards for 2000 will be given in three categories: hospital care, community care and shared care. Shared care entries require the active participation of professionals in both the hospital and community setting. There will be a runner-up in each category. Applicants will have to demonstrate worthwhile initiatives that improve patient care and hence quality of life. This can be in relation to the pharmacist's core activity of providing drug therapy or in relation to peripheral activities such as diagnostic testing, health promotion, formulary development, etc. Pharmacists may enter singly or in small groups. Co-operative efforts involving other professions are eligible, but pharmacists should play a leading role in them. Entries from overseas are welcome. Entrants should supply to The Journal a description of their initiative
along with the entry form which was published in the January 27 issue
of The Journal. They should use the headings given on the entry
form. |

Entrants should give the full names, addresses and job titles of all applicants, along with a daytime telephone number. Entries should not exceed 1,000 words. Back-up information may also be supplied. Entries must be sent to the The winners in each category will receive an engraved plaque plus £1,000 to use in developing professional services. Runners-up will receive £500 for the same purpose. The prizes will be presented at the Savoy Hotel, London, on June 2s. Any overseas winners would not be expected to attend. Their awards would be presented to them in their home countries by a representative of the organisers. Judging will be by a panel comprising representatives from professional bodies and Glaxosmithkline. The editor of The Pharmaceutical Journal will act as chairman. |
