Chemical structures

From Dr S. Gibbons, MRSC

I would like to draw your intention to the appalling representation of the chemical structure of ziprasidone (PJ, March 24, p396). In an age when it is imperative that pharmacy students are aware of the value of chemistry in their discipine, it is a little disappointing that a leading publication in the profession fails to pay sufficient attention to the precision and importance of structural nomenclature.

Simon Gibbons

University of London

The structure and nomenclature were taken from published material supplied to the author of the article by Pfizer Ltd, manufacturer of ziprasidone, and were reproduced by us in good faith.
