Professional development

Work together

From Mrs. I. Gummerson, MRPharmS

I have just attended the Diabetes UK (formerly the British Diabetic Association) annual conference at Glasgow. It was good to see Lloyds Pharmacy showing a pharmacy presence at there. Perhaps other multiples will see the value in future years.

If the multiples could get their professional development people to share initiatives in different diseases, pharmacy could progress faster than it does in the current position, where one company does a pilot here, and another does a pilot there, with everyone getting nowhere fast. Is it possible that the best way to progress would be to develop services together then roll them out and offer the services to all pharmacists? Then the most committed will self-select, do the training and provide the best services. This will reflect well on the whole profession, including the multiples.
