Experts from around the world attended a discussion meeting at the Royal Society, London, to discuss how to plan for an influenza pandemic. Antivirals, vaccines and diagnostic tests were discussed as were the problems associated with their use in practice. The meeting was held on April 25-26. Zoë Gross reports
An influenza pandemic could occur at any time and the best way to plan for one was effective management of annual epidemics, according to Dr Douglas Fleming, Royal College of General Practitioners, Birmingham.
