BRMCouncil's response to motionsFrom Dr A. S. Hersom, FRPharmS, and Lady Perris, FRPharmS At the branch representatives' meeting last May, a motion by the Hull branch (seconded by the Birmingham branch) was carried. The motion was that Council's response to motions carried at a BRM should be published before the following branch secretaries' meeting, at which time will be allowed for feedback and discussion, and that Council provides periodic progress reports to the branch which proposed a particular motion (PJ, May 20, 2000, p768). The Council's response (PJ, October 28, 2000, p648) was: Starting in 2000, the report will be published and distributed to the branches at the beginning of October each year, following the Council meeting and before the branch secretaries' meeting. Actually, in 2000, the Council's responses to branch motions were available only on the day of the branch secretaries' meeting (owing to the use of second class post) and no time was allowed for discussion or feedback on progress. In view of the fact that the first part of the motion was not responded to as the BRM clearly intended, we wonder whether any branch secretary has been provided with periodic progress reports on motions that their branch may have proposed.
