Medicines supply

Manufacturers should be honest

From Ms G. McKever, MRPharmS

Whenever I send an order to my wholesaler there are at least a dozen items listed as “please reorder” or “manufacturer’s delay”. When contacted the manufacturers are usually unable to give a supply date. Some items seem to be in limbo — dispatched from the manufacturer but not at the wholesaler and certainly not with us. When a supply is made available it is often inadequate for the demand. If a manufacturer cannot supply surely it should notify us of the situation with an explanation and an honest date of resupply?

For how much longer do we have to put up with irate customers who just wish to be supplied with their medication? General practitioners are no help as they think “going to another chemist” will solve the problem. The whole situation is bad for business and does nothing to enhance our professionalism.

Gillian McKever
