JIM BANNERMAN writes:
It seems that Graham has been involved in all aspects
of our profession for as long as we can remember. But the most memorable
facets of his life were his integrity and his wonderful sense of humour.
They were certainly on display over the last few months of his long and
fulfilled life.
Graham dedicated his pharmaceutical service to one
area of Glasgow and he was immensely proud when his daughter Gillian took
over the pharmacy.
He worked with us in the organisation of the British
Pharmaceutical Conference held in Glasgow in 1971. Unfortunately, his
wife Reata reluctantly resigned from the ladies committee because of ill
health. When Reata died some two years later, Graham gave himself totally
to looking after his two young daughters by himself. This became a consuming
challenge. He was an immensely successful single parent.
He always lived a full life. He helped run the Glasgow
Pharmacy Golfing Society, of which he was the honorary captain. He made
many friends in this field, especially in the matches he arranged with
Irish pharmacists.
Graham derived great pleasure from being with people
and being part of pharmacy. I recall enjoying an Australian conference
with him, but I know the highlight for him was not the conference but
the concert which he took me to at the Opera House.
His life was rich and he freely shared it with so
many friends. We are lucky to have known the generosity of spirit that
was embodied in Graham Tarbet.
