Moss to launch own brand

Moss Pharmacy is to start selling a range of own brand products under a Moss label. Until now the chain, which is owned by Alliance UniChem Plc, has sold the UniChem own brand range also used by independent pharmacies served by the UniChem wholesaling division.

Sue Rockhill, marketing director, Moss, told a press briefing on June 21 that Moss Pharmacy was last the of the national pharmacy chains not to have its own brand. “With around 700 pharmacies, we have the critical mass to have our own range,” she said.

The products will continue to come from the same suppliers as UniChem but will appear in new packaging. Moss will stop selling equivalent UniChem products when Moss ones are introduced but will not drop the UniChem range as a whole. Ranges of analgesics, counter medicines and photographic films and disposable cameras will be introduced to stores during July. Promotion of the new products will start in August. Further lines are to include vitamin supplements, cough and cold products and premium toiletries.
