SPC changes

Norvir new indication

Abbott Laboratories has extended the licensed indications for its Norvir (ritonavir) capsules and oral solution. Norvir is now additionally indicated for use with other antiretroviral agents, including other protease inhibitors.

Carvedilol tablets

The summary of product characteristics for Eucardic (carvedilol) tablets has been amended. Initiation of therapy should still only be under the supervision of a hospital physician. However, any subsequent titration of the dose can be done by a health care professional experienced in the management of heart failure. The SPC from Roche Products now says that therapy should also only be initiated after a thorough assessment of the patient’s condition. Before any subsequent titration of the dose, the patient must be clinically evaluated on the day of up-titration. The dose should not be increased in any patient with deteriorating heart failure since their last visit or with signs of decompensated or unstable chronic heart failure. The requirement to monitor patients for two to three hours after initiation and any dose increase during up-titration has been removed.
