New guidelines for malaria prophylaxisNew guidelines for malaria prophylaxis are to be published mid July. The main change to the guidelines, produced by the Advisory Committee on Malaria Prevention for UK travellers, is the inclusion of doxycycline and atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone) for use as alternative preferred regimens to mefloquine in many countries. Recent press coverage has suggested that pharmacists are not giving up-to-date information on malaria prophylaxis. In light of this, The Journal will be publishing extracts from the guidelines in next weeks issue and an introduction in this issue. |
