Pharmacy team awarded runner-up prize in NHS Health
and Social Care award
The pharmacy team at Christie Hospital in Withington,
Manchester, has been awarded a runner-up place in the National Health
Service Health and Social Care awards. The team won the award because
of its initiatives in speeding up the delivery of drugs to cancer patients
and bringing pharmacy services closer to patients.
Led by June So, chief pharmacist, the team set up
a dispensing scheme in one of the hospitals chemotherapy clinics. In
addition, a pharmacy technician is now present at certain outpatient clinics
to talk to patients about their medicines and to support junior medical
staff.
As part of the award the pharmacy has been given
£2,000 to spend within the department.
