Legal advice

A question of expertise

From Dr B. P. Curwain, MRPharmS

I note that “Concerned Pharmacist” (PJ, 7 July, p16) writes that the legal department at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society advised him to contact the Citizens Advice Bureau when a contract was abruptly terminated. Is this the level of service we should expect from our professional body?

Brian Curwain
Christchurch,
Dorset

STEPHEN LUTENER (head of pharmacy law, Royal Pharmaceutical Society) replies:

In all cases of legal dispute, it is essential that timely and up-to-date advice is sought. The Professional Standards Directorate is able to provide advice in relation to those areas where the Society is an enforcement body and has expertise, such as the Medicines Act 1968. For contract disputes, etc, pharmacists need to be directed towards other sources which can provide the advice required.
