Community pharmacy

Let technicians take care of the dispensary

From Mr S. M. Patel, MRPharmS

Mark Allen (PJ, 16 June) and Gurvinger Bhatia (PJ, 26 May) obviously are not presenting themselves to the public in a way to show that they are pharmacists and not shopkeepers. I work for a supermarket in the United States (parent company in Europe), and here customers never misjudge a pharmacist as a shopkeeper if he or she is out in the pharmacy talking to them about their health through counselling.

Let trained technicians take care of the dispensary and be there for checking, but otherwise be on the frontline to use your knowledge. The general public will then distinguish and appreciate the pharmacy profession for what it is.

Whose fault is it if we have created an image of shopkeepers?

Shailesh Patel
