The future

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I have just read the article by Dr Steven Kayne et al entitled “New opportunities in veterinary pharmacy” (PJ, 4 August).

I note that pharmacists are not permitted to diagnose the ailments of the majority of domestic pets. However, there is one happy exception. Apparently, we are allowed to give the owners of the ubiquitous goldfish the benefit of our extensive training and diagnose their malaises.

Three pennyworth of potassium permanganate crystals? Just the sort of encouragement we need after the abolition of resale price maintenance. The future may not be so bleak after all!
