US pharmacist to launch talking instructions recorder device in UKAn American pharmacist is to market a re-useable recording device for pharmacists in Britain. The device can be used to record 60-second messages giving patients instructions on how to take their medicines and other information. Talking-Rx has been developed by John Dobbins of the Millennium Compliance Corp and uses the technology from talking greetings cards to help people take prescribed medicines correctly. The device is a plastic cylinder with a recessed top into which cylindrical tablet bottles fit. By pressing a recessed button with a stylus, pharmacists can record their own instructions to patients into the miniature digital recorder. These are then played back by pressing a raised external button. New instructions can be recorded when prescriptions change by pressing the recessed button again. The device was patented in the United States in 1998 and recently received European Union CE and C marks for conformity to European safety regulations and requirements for medical devices. Mr Dobbins is now looking for a marketing partner for Europe. Information on Talking-Rx can be found at www.talkingrx.com. |
