Technical fault delays new HQ telephone network

A technical fault beyond the control of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society caused a delay in the installation of the new direct-dial access telephone system in the building (PJ, August 4). After months of planning, the new system should have gone live last weekend, but in the event it was not available until Tuesday evening.

The fault prevented callers from being able to access staff and services directly using the new telephone numbers given on the card distributed with last week’s Journal. Anyone attempting direct dialling was answered by an automated message advising them that the number dialled was temporarily out of order. Calls could still be made through the main switchboard number (020 7735 9141).

The Society’s head of information. Roy Allcorn, said on 8 August that callers could now contact all staff directly. The Society apologises for any inconvenience caused to members attempting to call new HQ numbers earlier in the week.
